The Partnership for
Emergency Planning presents:
BIA
Workshop: Business Impact Analysis Beginning to End
The workshop was held on
Wednesday, October 11, 2006.
The workshop covered the Business Impact Analysis (BIA).
The BIA project is the logical first step in the development of a business
continuity program. The project provides the business rationale for
disaster recovery and business continuity planning. A BIA can help
an organization to learn their current capability to recover from a
disastrous event. Also, the BIA can help validate that the plan in place
is really meeting the organization's business needs.
During this workshop the presenter examined
the successful methods for achieving timely desired results. He
covered how to ask the right questions to learn: What is most important? Why?
This workshop will be interactive, so bring your questions and come
share your experiences! The morning session included audience
interaction with the speaker, Mr. Pelant. They discussed the mock
development of a BIA. After the
networking lunch provided by PEP, Mr. Pelant discussed, in brief, the
next steps after the BIA development including its uses in recovery
strategy development and recovery plan development.
Mr Pelant promised to provide several documents which are below to be
downloaded by PEP members. The first two items are the
presentations in a pdf format (excluding the cartoons). Next, are the
Fact Sheets that outline the individual steps in the development of a
Business Continuity Program. They are organized in an approach to
specifically help someone get acquainted with the process. They also
include some information on our consulting practice. Finally, the
Interview Guidelines are the document we discussed for carrying out the
interview as the BIA data gathering approach.
